Ledger Integrates Canton Network to Secure Institutional Privacy-Enabled Digital Assets
20 August 2026

Ledger has integrated support for Canton Coin and the Canton Network ecosystem, bridging the gap between institutional-grade privacy and hardware-secured self-custody. For fintech professionals, this move signals a critical maturation of the real-world asset (RWA) market, providing the necessary security infrastructure to handle the $9 trillion in monthly volume currently processed on Canton.
What was announced
The integration brings Canton Coin, the utility token of the Canton Network, into the Ledger ecosystem across its retail and institutional product lines. Users can now manage privacy-enabled digital assets through Ledger Wallet on desktop and mobile, as well as via Ledger Enterprise. This technical alignment allows for the secure creation and management of Canton accounts, enabling users to send and receive native assets while maintaining the network's core promise of confidentiality.
A key technical component of this rollout is the extension of Ledger Enterprise’s hardware-backed institutional wallet to the Canton Network. This specific integration utilizes multiple validators to provide enhanced safeguards for high-value operations. For institutional clients, the solution offers tailored features including HSM-backed governance and sophisticated key management. These tools are designed to support a variety of use cases, from digital payments to the custody of tokenized securities, utilizing automated workflows and "clear signing" to ensure full visibility and control over transactions.
Crucially, the integration maintains the privacy standards of the Canton Network. Transactions are designed to preserve confidentiality, ensuring that sensitive institutional activity is not exposed on public block explorers, even while being managed through Ledger’s hardware-secured interface. This provides a pathway for institutions to scale their use of stablecoins and other privacy-enabled applications without compromising operational security.
"Canton was designed to give institutions and investors the benefits of a public blockchain without compromising privacy or control. Integrating Ledger’s industry-leading hardware security brings another critical layer of trust to the Canton ecosystem. It enables users, from institutions to retail investors, to securely hold and transfer Canton Coin and other privacy-enabled assets while maintaining the confidentiality and interoperability that make Canton unique."

The companies involved
Ledger is a global specialist in digital asset security, providing hardware wallets and enterprise-grade custody solutions designed to protect private keys. The company has positioned itself as a primary gateway for both individuals and institutions seeking to interact with decentralized finance and digital assets without relying on third-party custodians.
Digital Asset is the technology provider behind the Canton Network. The firm focuses on building distributed ledger technology that meets the stringent regulatory and privacy requirements of the global financial system. Its Canton Network is an interoperable blockchain platform specifically designed for institutional onchain finance, facilitating the movement of real-world assets with a focus on privacy and sovereignty.
The Canton Network itself functions as a "network of networks," allowing disparate financial systems to synchronize and transact while maintaining independent control over data. By providing a framework where institutions can build and grow privacy-enabled applications, it has become a significant hub for the tokenization of traditional financial instruments and the deployment of institutional stablecoins.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely tracked the expansion of the Canton ecosystem as it seeks to unify global capital markets. We recently covered how Axiology Launches Live Validator Node on Canton Network to Unify European Capital Markets, highlighting the network's growing infrastructure in the EU. Further emphasizing the drive toward tokenization, we reported on 1exchange Joins Canton Network to Drive Privacy-Enabled RWA Tokenization. The importance of secure self-custody remains a recurring theme in our coverage, particularly following security concerns in the broader market, such as when a Coldcard Firmware Flaw Leads to $70M Bitcoin Theft. Additionally, we have monitored the expansion of stablecoin utility, including when Tether’s USA₮ Stablecoin Launches on Celo with Native Gas Support.
What this means
This partnership is a direct response to the "custody dilemma" facing institutional DeFi: the need for public blockchain interoperability versus the requirement for private, secure asset control. By integrating with Ledger, Canton is effectively lowering the barrier to entry for conservative financial institutions that require hardware-level security before committing significant capital to onchain markets. Ledger, meanwhile, solidifies its position as the indispensable security layer for the RWA movement. The pressure is now on other hardware providers to offer similar deep integrations for permissioned, privacy-centric networks. Watch for an uptick in Canton-based security token offerings as the "last mile" of secure custody is now officially addressed.
